How to exclude postcodes or areas

The exclusion rules apply to a particular region. If you exclude a postcode for a particular region, you can still have that postcode applied in the inclusion for other regions.

There are three ways to exclude postcodes or areas in a region.

1. Simply not including it in the ‘Match field’

This field contains any address matching rules that determine when this Region should be applied. For example, if you entered 1000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 as a rule into this field and a customer has the 2000 postcode, then the rates inside this region would not be considered a match for this postcode. Essentially, if an area or a group of postcodes is not included in the “Match Rules” field for the region, no rates —from this region — will be offered for it.

2. Using the exclusion field.

When the match field has a range applied, and you want to exclude a specific postcode from that range, you can use the ‘Exclusion field’. This field contains any address matching rules that determine when this postcode/s or area should not be applied. For example, if you entered 2000 as a rule into this “Exclusion rules” field and a customer has a postcode of 2000, then the rates on this region wouldn’t be available for the excluded code.

3. Excluding from catchall

If you want to exclude shipping from certain postcodes, but you also have configured a Region with a ‘catchall’ rule, the best way to make it work is by configuring a new shipping region, placing the postcodes in the match rule and simply not add any rates.
