# How Rates are displayed on the checkout page

**Shopify adjusts the shipping rates presented in the checkout based on the charge amount.**

The checkout will always have the first shipping option pre-selected. It will always default to the first-rate (the cheapest rate in alphabetical order). 

This is how the rates are ordered and displayed.

**Example:**

* Lowest Rate ( Pre-selected by default )
* Mid Rate
* Highest Rate

Shopify controls and limits the access of third-party apps to the checkout page, meaning that our Postcode Shipping app can’t control the way rates display nor define the preselected rate at any instance.
